How to Apply as an Undergraduate International Student
As an international student, you'll have the chance to experience life at Wisconsin's ºÚÁÏÉçÇøâ€”where leaning goes beyond the classroom. To help you apply, we've created a step-by-step guide just for International Undergraduate and English as a Second Language (ESL) conditional degree students. To apply as an international undergraduate student, please complete the following steps:
A $50 USD international undergraduate admissions processing fee is required prior to an admissions decision. Undergraduate applicants will receive a direct link to pay the Admissions Processing Fee after submission of the application.
The English proficiency requirement may be waived for applicants from English-speaking countries. This will be determined by the Admissions Office after you have applied.
Ways to show evidence of English proficiency:
- Official TOEFL score:
- Exams taken before January 21, 2026: Minimum total score of 70
- Exams taken on or after January 21, 2026: Minimum total score of 4
- Official IELTS score, or IELTS One Skill Retake: Minimum score of 6.0
- Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic): Minimum score of 48
- Duolingo English Test (DET):
- Minimum score of 115 overall (minimum sub/sectional scores of 90 or higher)
- ºÚÁÏÉçÇø's English as a Second Language Institute (ESLI) will require that students who submit Duolingo English Test scores:
- complete additional testing conducted by the ESLI, and
- enroll in additional ESL courses, as applicable.
- Successful completion of ºÚÁÏÉçÇø's English as a Second Language (ESL) program.
- Earned transfer credit from a regionally accredited school equivalent to ºÚÁÏÉçÇø's English 101, with a grade of C or higher.

How to Apply as an Undergraduate ESL Conditional Degree Student
If you require English as a Second Language (ESL) training before enrolling in one of ºÚÁÏÉçÇø's undergraduate majors, you may apply for conditional admission to the degree program. To apply, please follow the steps below:
Please submit your academic records from all secondary/senior secondary and post-secondary/university institutions you've attended.
- Send your academic records and an English translation.
- Include course descriptions for all courses you've completed at higher education institutions.
- For U.S.-based schools, please submit your records electronically through .

Admission to ºÚÁÏÉçÇø's English as a Second Language Institute does not require a minimum English proficiency test score. The scores will be used to determine course placement in our five ESL levels. Send one of the following official English proficiency test scores:
