I better double-check that this isn't a mistake before calling mom!” she said.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span>It wasn’t a mistake. Pederson is one of 70 UW System students chosen randomly to receive the scholarship. I have multiple people in my family who have compromised immune systems,” she said.</span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span>As of Thursday, Nov. 18, 78% of students and 91% of faculty and staff at have been vaccinated.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>“We are so proud of our students who stepped up to the plate and helped our campus reach the 70% vaccination rate,” said Sandi Scott, dean of students. “It . exciting to know that the scholarship dollars were awarded to randomly selected students who helped us hit the mark!” </span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span>In addition to the System scholarships, the university is providing another seven scholarships for the same amount through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund — HEERF III — federal grant. Those winners also have been randomly chosen but still are in the process of being verified.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span>UW System President Tommy Thompson set a goal for 12 universities to reach a 70% student vaccination rate. I know how important education is. I know how important these schools are.”</span></p><p><span>Thompson praised students for reaching the 70% goal on Sept. 29 as part of the UW System . 70 for 70 campaign, but he encouraged them to keep going. It . the finest polytechnic school, in my opinion, in the country,” he said.</span></p><p><a href="/covid-19-coronavirus-planning-and-preparedness"><span>Another vaccination clinic</span></a><span> will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, on campus.</span></p><p><span>Chancellor Katherine Frank, who introduced Thompson and also spent much of the day with him and UW System officials on campus, announced that the student vaccination rate is up to 75% and the faculty and staff rate is 90%, well ahead of the Dunn County rate of 45%.</span></p><p><span>“Stout is doing great and is helping serve as a model for other universities and the community. Last semester it seemed like you didn’t know. I was in a house with eight guys. Everyone got COVID but two of us; I didn’t. I got vaccinated in March,” Lemery said.</span></p><p><span>Vaccinated students will be entered into a drawing later this fall to win one of several $7,000 UW System scholarships. will award an additional seven, $7,000 scholarships to fully vaccinated students through a separate drawing.</span></p><p><span>Any student who has been fully vaccinated and uploads their information to the university . secure database by Sunday, Oct. 31, remains eligible for the scholarships. He also held a working lunch at the student center with City of Menomonie, Dunn County and regional officials.</span></p><p><span>“This is a fantastic campus, and more people need to know about it,” Thompson said. “Ninety-eight point eight percent of graduates get a job, the highest of any university in the country. We need to tell the story.”</span></p><p><span>He cited . polytechnic designation. “Stout could be a magnet for the country. There . nothing like it,” he said, mentioning that he has a sister and nephew who graduated from .</span></p><p><span>He recalled three other personal Menomonie connections: working for a paving company for about a month one summer while he was in college; playing a role, while governor, in Sam Walton . decision to build a Walmart distribution center in the city; and also while governor helping break ground for the Stout Technology and Business Park on the city . east side.</span></p><p><span>Thompson stressed that the universities in the UW System need to be good partners within their area to help each other grow. Knock and Talk initiative, which started in 2016. At each campus, excluding UW-Madison, once 70% of students are vaccinated, a portion of 70 scholarships will be awarded. We thought candy store,” Stream said. “Candy is colorful and there are endless art things we could do. The story also has an international section. Teaberry gum, which has a mint-like flavor like eastern teaberry. They used other red-colored candy such as licorice around the teaberry gum to help highlight the color of the gum . package.</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>For Stream one of the best parts of the class is to work in a team with multiple people who have strengths. “It was fun to work toward a common goal and to work with a client,” Stream said. “I just like the variety of this class that we get to learn so many things.”</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>Oss said when there are clients students are more engaged because their work is being seen by a larger audience. “It takes a project from something they have to do for a class to something they want to do,” Oss said. “They want to please these people. They have to sell a vision. Vaccines typically are produced after testing, but COVID vaccine production took place during testing because of the emergency situation. The health impacts are minor and short-term, such as a sore arm, headache and body aches. Severe reactions have been just five per every million, or one in 200,000.</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>The risk of not being vaccinated and getting infected can be much greater. The goal was to collect stories while memories were fresh for future generations to hear.</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>Dozens of faculty, staff, students and community members were interviewed for the project.<br> “We really tried to represent a variety of voices and experiences,” Stecklein said. “Library student workers transcribed the stories so they can be searched by keywords. The interviews are really a moment in time. There were so many people wishing for a vaccine and to see family members again. The interviews will be searchable by keywords.</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>The past year has been one of innovation, Stecklein said. “The idea of doing remote interviews with people on Teams and having software to transcribe the interviews into an MP4 was something we had never done,” she noted. “It was something we hadn’t even thought of as a way to save oral histories a year ago.”</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>The archives also moved toward more digitization of historical documents because the pandemic-related shift toward distance and hybrid learning made remote access a necessity for many students. Student organizations also had to learn how to meet while apart.</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>Hybrid events will continue, Witucki said, noting there will be some people meeting in -person at events and others attending virtually. “It makes it more accessible for everyone,” he noted.</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>From a student and local government standpoint, it allows more people to attend meetings who may not have the ability to otherwise. Those with hearing loss can use instant closed captioning in meetings or events, he noted.</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>He expects performers or speakers coming to campus will continue to offer their events both virtually and in person because they have recognized the benefit of more people able to attend and being accessible to more students, Witucki said.</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>The Memorial Student Center closed on March 24, 2020, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. It was closed for 131 days, Witucki said. “It was painful,” Witucki said. “It was the antithesis to what we are. We usually open our doors wider in times of crisis like 9/11.”</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>Witucki said the Involvement Center staff has been amazing coming up with virtual or hybrid events. Last semester there were 152 programs held. Maker . Nights became popular because students could choose to attend in person or pick up the craft items and follow along virtually, he noted. Stat. § 948.51</span></a><span lang="EN-US">, defines hazing as any intentional, knowing, or reckless act against an individual that endangers the physical, mental, emotional, or psychological health of that individual for the purposes of initiation or admission into, affiliation with, or the maintenance of membership in any organization or group and that causes or creates a risk of physical or psychological injury, regardless of the individual . willingness to participate.&nbsp;</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p><span lang="EN-US"><strong>5.0 CRITERIA</strong></span></p><p><span><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</strong> 5.1 </span><span lang="EN-US">HAZING CAN INCLUDE, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p><p><span>5.1.1 </span><span lang="EN-US">Brutality of a physical nature or the threat of bodily harm such as assault, whipping, beating, branding, forced calisthenics, exposure to elements, sleep deprivation, confinement, or any other activity which could adversely affect the physical, mental, emotional, or psychological health or safety of the individual.</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p></div></div><div><div><p><span lang="EN-US">5.1.2 Forced consumption of any alcohol, food, liquid, drug, or other substance that could adversely affect the physical, mental, emotional, or psychological health or safety of the individual.</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p><p><span lang="EN-US">5.1.3 Soliciting a person to participate in or be actively involved in the planning of any act meeting the definition of hazing.</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p><p><span lang="EN-US">5.1.4 Any activity that constitutes the violation of university policies and/or federal, state, or local law (including ordinances of the City of Menomonie), or that causes another person to commit such a violation.</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p><span lang="EN-US">5.1.5 Acts that degrade, humiliate, embarrass, ridicule, or isolate such as requiring servitude, taking away cell phones or other devices, not allowing class attendance, requiring costumes or other apparel unless that apparel is part of a uniform for employment or a university or athletic program, confinement, or any other &nbsp;activity that could adversely affect the physical, mental, emotional, or psychological health or safety of the individual.</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p><span lang="EN-US">5.1.6 Causing, coercing, or otherwise inducing another person to perform sexual acts.&nbsp;</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p><span lang="EN-US">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;5.2 REPORTING</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p><span lang="EN-US">&nbsp;5.2.1 Campus security authorities as defined in </span><a class="Hyperlink SCXW256231164 BCX8" href="/life-stout/university-police/clery-information/campus-security-authorities" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><span lang="EN-US">Institutional Clery Act Compliance</span></a><span lang="EN-US"> are required to report incidents of hazing to the university.</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p><span lang="EN-US">5.2.2 Allegations of hazing may be reported via the University of Wisconsin-Stout </span><a class="Hyperlink SCXW256231164 BCX8" href="https://cm.maxient.com/reportingform.php?UnivofWisconsinStout&amp;layout_id=3" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><span lang="EN-US">Incident Reporting Form</span></a><span lang="EN-US"></span><span>&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p><span lang="EN-US">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 5.3 INVESTIGATION/REFERRAL</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p><span lang="EN-US">5.3.1 The Dean of Students Office is responsible for investigating and adjudicating allegations of hazing.</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p><span lang="EN-US">5.3.2 Individual students will follow student nonacademic disciplinary procedures outlined in </span><a class="Hyperlink SCXW256231164 BCX8" href="https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/code/admin_code/uws/17" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><span lang="EN-US">Wis.
