Workshops for students build on their career readiness competencies

To help students meet future employer and workforce needs, �� . Career Services infuses Career Readiness Competencies into its applied learning programs, Cooperative Education and Internship Program and Grow, Persist, Succeed, which have been recognized nationally and statewide.

Career Services offers events and workshops for students and alumni to build on these competencies, as well as grow their professional networks. One of its largest events – the biannual Career Conference Week – offers five industry-specific events centered on computing, packaging, print and design, science and engineering, construction, management, hospitality and human sciences.

From Monday, Feb. 23, to Thursday, Feb. 26, students and alumni are encouraged to attend any and all days of the conference, as many industry sectors hire across disciplines.

Seven organizations share perspectives on meeting evolving industries, workforce needs

Prior to the conference, Career Services hosts a Prep Week, with drop-in resume reviews, a signature Blue Devil Prep for Success event and more. Two new career education workshops include panels on 3D modeling and authenticity in the workplace, led by professionals from Medtronic, Miron Construction, Life Time and �� faculty.

3D Design in Action

An industry panel on 3D Design in Action will show game design and animation students how the 3D skills they are developing can be used beyond the game industry. Construction and design professionals Taylor Poss with Medtronic, Brian Athey with Miron Construction, and Lindsay Seichter with Life Time, will share real examples of how they use 3D tools, what skills they look for when hiring and how game-based experiences transfer to work within these industries. A Q&A will follow.

The panel will be from 11:15 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, in Applied Arts room 321. All students and alumni are encouraged to attend and follow up with these companies and others at the Construction: Design, Build, Manage career conference that day.

Authenticity & Professionalism Workshop

A new interactive workplace readiness workshop on Feb. 17 invited students to participate in small-group discussions to reflect on what authenticity and professionalism look like. Co-hosted by the university ��. Underrepresented Faculty & Staff Alliance, professionals shared real stories about how they learned to “show up” at work, set professional boundaries, and navigate workplace expectations and policies, without losing who they are. The session wrapped up with practical advice from the panelists for students to consider as they navigate the job search process.

Additional Career Services programs and events this spring include Human Sciences Day on Wednesday, April 8; Art & Design Week - Portfolio Review Day on Friday, April 10; and more.

Infusion of Career Readiness Competencies is the ‘why’ to majors at ��

The National Association of Colleges & Employers established a foundation of Career Readiness Competency skills for students to ensure successful entrance and launch into a career. Based on research, eight competencies were created and established:

��, Wisconsin ��. ��, recognizes the importance of adapting degrees to evolving industries and workforce needs, with the university ��. No. 1 enduring goal to “offer high quality, challenging academic programs that influence and respond to a changing society.”

Employers like Enterprise Mobility, EVCO Plastics, Fastenal, Greenheck Group, Heartland Business Systems, Menard, Inc. and Phillips Medisize recognize these changes as well and seek out employees who can adapt to and are excited about growing career opportunities. These organizations – among the many participating in �� . Career Conference Week, Monday, Feb. 23, to Thursday, Feb. 26 – share their perspectives on evolving industries.

During the week, recruiters from hundreds of companies from across the United States will engage with more than 2,000 students and alumni for internships and post-graduation positions. Employers attending also include SpaceX, Boston Scientific, Ecolab, Great Northern Corp., Kohler, Kraus-Anderson, Prent Corp., Schreiber Foods, Skyward, Sundt Construction and more.

“As industries evolve, whether AI, materials, process or culture driven, �� is preparing students to meet those needs,” said Career Services Director Bryan Barts. “The career conference this spring will not only provide substantial recruitment opportunities, but we have expanded to offer two new career education sessions for students: a 3D modeling skills workshop for design students across medical device and construction fields, as well as a workplace readiness panel on Authenticity and Professionalism, in collaboration with the Underrepresented Faculty and Staff Alliance.”

The five industry-focused fairs, hosted by Career Services at the Memorial Student Center, will center on computing, packaging, print and design, science and engineering, construction, management, hospitality and human sciences.

Students and alumni are encouraged to attend any and all days, as many industry sectors hire across disciplines.

Enterprise Mobility

Enterprise Mobility, a leading provider of mobility services, continues to see careers in the management and hospitality industry evolve rapidly as customer expectations, mobility solutions and technology advance. What hasn’t changed is the strong foundation of its Management Training Program, which grows as it develops future leaders who can adapt to shifting business needs.

“We’re seeing emerging opportunities in areas like fleet modernization, technology-driven operational efficiency and expanded mobility offerings that go far beyond traditional car rental,” said Connor Foor, group talent acquisition manager. “As our business evolves, so do the skillsets we’re developing. EVCO Plastics, a global leader in custom plastic injection molding, headquartered in DeForest, is seeing careers in plastics engineering expand in exciting directions as the industry evolves. Emerging opportunities in advanced materials, automation and digital manufacturing are creating demand for engineers who can blend deep technical expertise with curiosity.

Sustainability is also a growing focus, from circular design and bio-based polymers to optimized recycling processes. EVCO is adapting by implementing greener practices and cross-functional development programs. Ultimately, the future of plastics engineering will be shaped by professionals who are agile learners, innovators and collaborators across disciplines.

Fastenal

Fastenal is always looking at what could be coming next and continues to evolve over time. Whether that be developing strategies to better suit its customers, remaining innovative with the constant adaptation in technology and the services offered, or even creating new roles internally to support various business needs.

Fastenal, located in Winona, Minnesota, is the largest fastener distributor in North America. �� engineering and automation majors and computer science or IT-related majors are encouraged to talk to Fastenal and other science and engineering employers on the Tuesday of Career Conference Week.

Many companies are moving away from the traditional infrastructure and toward a more flexible, service-based model, which is increasing the need for professionals who can connect technical expertise with business strategies and client engagement.

Computer science senior hired as a hardware developer before graduation

IBM, the largest industrial research organization in the world, has been at the forefront of innovative technology and systems for more than a century. Advancing from its earliest electric accounting machines to partnerships in space travel and cloud computing, IBM is a leader in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.

At IBM in Rochester, Minnesota, �� computer science senior Amber Kuhn is completing her cooperative learning experience as a hardware development intern.

Kuhn, of Andover, Minnesota, will graduate in May 2026 and has accepted a full-time hardware development position at IBM, where she plans to continue growing her skills in industry while gaining deeper experience in large-scale systems and engineering practices, she said.

“This internship has reinforced my interest in the field of computer science and confirmed that I am on the right career path. I am grateful for the support from both �� and IBM, and I am excited to continue learning and contributing as I move into a full-time role.”

What interests you most about computer science?

What interests me most about computer science is the combination of problem-solving, logic and creativity. I enjoy building systems that have real-world applications, especially when software interfaces directly with hardware. I find it especially rewarding to take abstract concepts and turn them into functional, reliable solutions.

How do you hope to make an impact in your field?

I hope to make an impact by contributing to well-designed, reliable systems and by building tools that improve efficiency and reduce errors for both engineers and users.

Long-term, I want to be involved in work that bridges software and hardware and that has tangible, real-world impact. Enterprise computing systems are a strong example of software and hardware with significant real-world impact. Large-scale server hardware, combined with low-level software, firmware, and automation tools, supports industries such as health care, finance, government, cloud services and research. These systems are critical because they must be highly reliable, secure, and scalable to support essential services and large volumes of data.

Through my internship experience, I’ve seen how internal software tools and automation can make a meaningful difference by streamlining workflows, reducing configuration errors, and improving system reliability. While these tools may not be customer-facing, they have a broad impact by supporting the engineers and technicians who build and maintain complex systems.

I hope to contribute to fields that rely on dependable infrastructure and high-performance systems, particularly enterprise computing and hardware-software integration. I am especially interested in building tools and systems that support technical teams and help ensure that critical technologies people rely on every day function reliably and efficiently.

What are your main roles as an intern with IBM?

My main roles include supporting hardware development and testing, assisting with automation and tooling, working with cross-functional teams, and contributing to projects that improve reliability, usability and efficiency of engineering workflows.

One project I worked on involved developing and improving internal tools to automate test setup and configuration, making bench setups more consistent and reducing manual errors. I also assisted with hardware-related testing and documentation efforts that helped streamline workflows for engineers and technicians.

These projects were primarily designed to support enterprise computing and infrastructure development. While the tools and testing work I contributed to were internal-facing, they directly support hardware platforms that are used across many industries, including health care, finance, cloud computing, government and research.

My team ��. work fits into a much larger system at IBM, where every part of the supply chain, from hardware design and manufacturing to testing, integration, and deployment, plays a critical role in delivering reliable systems. Each team contributes a piece that ensures these platforms can meet the needs of a wide range of industries and use cases.

By improving test automation, configuration consistency, and documentation, the work helps ensure that hardware systems are reliable, scalable, and ready for deployment in environments where downtime or errors can have serious consequences. In that sense, the impact extends beyond a single field and supports industries that rely on high-performance, dependable computing systems to operate critical applications.

The projects also supported engineering and technical teams directly, helping them work more efficiently and accurately, which ultimately improves the quality of the systems delivered to customers across these industries.

What do you enjoy most about your internship?

What I enjoy most is working on meaningful, real-world problems alongside experienced engineers. I appreciate being trusted with responsibility and having the opportunity to learn how large-scale systems are designed, tested and maintained in an industry environment.

What is challenging about your internship, and how do you face those challenges?

The most challenging aspect is the complexity of the systems and the steep learning curve that comes with enterprise-level hardware and software integration.

I face these challenges by asking questions, seeking feedback, reviewing documentation and breaking problems down into manageable pieces. I’ve learned to be persistent and proactive when troubleshooting.

How will your courses and experiences at Stout help you make an impact in your career?

�� . hands-on, applied learning approach has been especially valuable. Courses in software development, databases, and web programming, along with project-based assignments, have prepared me to work on real systems.

Projects where I designed full applications from backend to frontend stand out the most, as they closely mirror the work I’ve done during my internship.

A strong example of this preparation is my capstone project, Rock the Wall, which I completed the semester before starting my internship. Rock the Wall is a full-stack, web-based route management system designed for the Stout Adventures Rock Climbing Wall. The application was created to replace a manual Excel-based process used to track climbing routes and employee hours, which was time-consuming, error-prone and difficult to manage collaboratively.

The application serves multiple end users. Climbers can view currently set routes, track their progress, see leaderboards and climbing rankings, and leave feedback on routes. Employees can add, edit, or retire routes and log their setting hours, while managers have additional administrative tools to manage user roles and oversee wall activity. The system was built using JavaScript and PrimeVue for the frontend, Firebase for authentication, PostgreSQL for the database and GitHub for version control.

Designing Rock the Wall required me to think critically about user roles, data modeling, authentication, and usability, skills that directly transferred to my internship work. Building a complete application from backend to frontend gave me confidence working on production-level systems and reinforced the importance of clean architecture, collaboration and user-centered design. This experience has been foundational in helping me contribute meaningfully in a professional software development setting.

Grow, Persist, Succeed offers career counseling, boosts student retention

An innovative career-development program continues to gather accolades as it helps guide University of Wisconsin-Stout students on a route to post-college success.

The Grow, Persist, Succeed (GPS) Program, part of Career Services, is about more than connecting students to on-campus jobs: It makes these work experiences more meaningful by fostering one-on-one career coaching and feedback from supervisors about students’ evolving career skills.

The program was honored earlier this semester with the Regents Academic Staff Excellence Award, which is given by the Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents to a noninstructional academic staff program that provides exceptional service.

“This exemplary program embodies the mission of �� by preparing our students for impactful careers through professional experiences that focus on applied learning and collaborative partnerships,” Provost Glendalí Rodríguez said in a letter nominating the program for the award. “The GPS program provides a holistic and student-centered initiative by pairing students with faculty and staff and meaningfully integrating job experiences with career development.”

Now in its fourth year, GPS is designed for first- and second-year students and new transfer students, particularly those from underserved populations such as first-generation college students. GPS aligns with �� . polytechnic tenets of applied learning and career focus. In its first three years, the program supported nearly 100 students across 23 university offices, departments and programs, ranging from Admissions and Athletics to the Discovery Center Fab Lab and the chemistry and physics department.

In addition to developing career skills, the program fosters student retention, said Career Services Director Bryan Barts. “Research has shown us that students who have a job on campus have a higher likelihood of completing their degree,” Barts said.

Built into the GPS program are eight “career competencies” identified by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), which include communication, critical thinking, leadership, professionalism and more. These competencies are seen as national benchmarks for how well students will perform in real-world work environments. GPS participants assess themselves on these skills at the beginning and end of the academic year, and results from 2024-25 showed that students had a 10% increase in their overall confidence about their career skills.

During their participation in the program, students pick a few of the eight competencies to focus on, and along the way receive targeted feedback about these skills from their supervisors. “That ��. a really impactful and intentional step to improving the students’ experience, and we’re seeing that the supervisors appreciate the guidance and support that it gives,” Barts said.

GPS helps students develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed later in their academic careers and in the workplace. “Students appreciate knowing what employers are going to be looking for when they are searching for internship and co-op experiences,” said Sara Anger, career development manager with Career Services.

The Grow, Persist, Succeed (GPS) Program recently received the Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents Academic Staff Excellence Award.

The Regents Academic Staff Excellence Award isn’t the first honor GPS has received: During its inaugural year, the program was given an Innovation Award by the Wisconsin Association of Colleges and Employers, WI-ACE, for providing unique and creative approaches to student programming, university/employer relations, recruiting and training. �� officials have also made presentations about the GPS Program at state and regional professional conferences.

�� junior Ian Bryant worked in the university ��. Admissions and Advisement offices as part of the GPS Program, which he said has helped him both develop talents and plan his career pathway. “They really tailor it to your skills, what your mindset is, and what your plans are,” he said of GPS. “And that really sets students up for success.”

While students can learn basic skills such as time-management at many other jobs, Bryant said, “The GPS Program adds another layer to it. It really emphasizes professional and personal growth.”

Career development jobs program for students honored with statewide Innovation Award

With applied and experiential learning and a career focus, students who attend �� know they will graduate ready to enter the work world.

Bryant, a B.S. hotel, restaurant & tourism management major from Rochester, Minnesota, said he isn’t surprised that the GPS Program has won awards.

“This is a perfect example of why Stout has the employment rate it does,” he said, alluding to the fact that 99% of Blue Devils are employed or continuing their education within six months of graduation. “Not only are we setting students up for that hands-on experience in industry, but we’re developing those professional skills, and I think that ��. crucial.”

Barts said he expects programs such as GPS to have a long-term impact on �� graduates. He pointed to the results of the 2024 National Alumni Career Mobility Survey, which found that participating �� alumni from the classes of 2014 and 2019 rated the university higher than peer institutions on five out of six factors, including career pathway preparation, institutional career investment, career mobility, career satisfaction and community engagement.

“As an early career readiness program, GPS is a shining example of how �� prepares students quickly for success in future internships and post-graduation careers,” Barts said.

At Prent Corporation ��. headquarters in Janesville, �� industrial and product design student Izabelle Quade is seeing these solutions firsthand and applying skills she ��. learned to help design packaging during her product design engineering cooperative this summer and fall.

“Prent creates packages that house products that save people ��. lives in the medical field. Making people ��. lives better is what I strive for. From making something that someone can enjoy to something that changes their daily lives,” Quade said.

“It has been incredibly cool to see the process of packaging engineering from start to finish and all the tasks that must be done along the way.”

Quade, of Buffalo, Minnesota, also has an interaction design minor and plans to graduate in spring 2028. She would like to work in product development.

How do you hope to make an impact in your field?

Everyone needs the right tool for the job. I hope to design things that people can interact with and find satisfaction in.

No matter the industry I go into after college, I would like to make things that better people ��. everyday lives. Whether it ��. simply through how they feel about the products they use or how they interact with them, I want people to find use in the items that I help create.

What are your main roles as an intern with Prent Corporation?

As an addition to Prent Corporation ��. product development team, I assist in designing and redesigning thermoformed packaging. Thermoforming is the act of heating up plastic and forming it within a mold.

I have worked on designs for packaging for a heart replacement valve kit and catheter kits. I’ve also helped with the organization of our tool room and am assisting in the prototype lab.

I attend team meetings and company visits, gather customer details, edit drawings and assist other departments involved in the development process.

What do you enjoy most about your internship?

I enjoy the atmosphere of Prent Corporation. Within the hustle and bustle of our busy work hours, they value their employees.

People are very connected throughout departments and communicate easily. This is helped by the fact that each building is connected, allowing people to walk over to other departments with concerns they have. They also put on events for employees. I attended a baseball game between the Beloit Sky Carp and the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

What is challenging about your internship, and how do you face those challenges?

I found communication to be hard upon starting my internship. I worked through this by asking who others were and who I should reach out to in different situations. Most people I work with directly are housed in the same building. I can walk over and ask questions in a straightforward way. This decreases the response time and leaves less room for misunderstanding.

How will your courses and experiences at Stout help you make an impact in your career?

I believe that my courses at Stout will help me achieve my goals in the future. Fashion Without Fabric stands out to me the most when I think of my learning at Stout. Like many of my courses at Stout, FWOF challenged me to think outside the box.

High atop a five-star hotel in Minneapolis, �� real estate property management senior Madelyn King completed her summer cooperative experience as a private residences intern with Four Seasons.

“What I love most about the real estate property management major is that no two days are ever the same. I enjoy the fast-paced environment, but especially the opportunity to build meaningful connections with both residents and coworkers,” said King, who is also majoring in hotel, restaurant and tourism management.

Her internship at Four Seasons, which has 34 private residences at its Minneapolis location and manages residences in 21 countries, provided her with just the luxury residential living management experience she was looking for.

“In luxury residential living, we help to make a house a home through thoughtful touches, caring gestures, world-class amenities, and a team of staff with a profound expertise in property management in the world ��. most sought-after destinations,” King said.

King, of Brownsville, plans to graduate in May 2026 and is excited about the possibility of continuing with Four Seasons or pursuing a role where she can combine hospitality, property management and community-building.

“I’m thankful to ��, my professors, and the REPM program for helping shape my career path and giving me the tools to succeed in this internship and beyond,” she said.

King was one of 20 �� students who received the university ��. 2025 Outstanding Cooperative Education and Internship Program Student of the Year Award. She was awarded for her excellence and achievements in a previous internship with Whistling Straits.

How do you hope to make an impact in your field?

I hope to be a positive moment in someone ��. day, whether by helping solve a problem, offering a warm welcome or simply making someone feel at home.

What were your main roles as an intern with Four Seasons?

A few of my main responsibilities were:

Assisting with resident interaction and guest services
Coordinating housekeeping and engineering tasks
Managing package deliveries, vendor access and concierge requests
Supporting our team with residential operations and governance-related tasks.

What did you enjoy most about your internship?

I’ve really enjoyed diving into the governing documents that guide how the property operates. It might sound boring at first, but it ��. actually super interesting to understand the structure behind luxury residential living.

I read through the entirety of the governing documents and created a summary presentation, which I presented to a few department directors. These documents included CC&R (Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions), bylaws, declaration and agreements.

I truly feel that without my internship, I would not have been able to understand these documents, as I learn best by gaining hands-on experience.

What was challenging about your internship, and how did you face those challenges?

The most challenging part was handling the occasional resident complaint. Conflict is never easy, but I’ve learned a lot about staying calm, listening actively and working through those moments with professionalism.

While managing resident complaints taught me professionalism with guests, leadership roles challenged me to navigate team dynamics. The biggest conflicts I’ve faced in leadership have been personality clashes within a team. I’ve learned to approach those situations by setting clear expectations, encouraging open communication and finding common ground. This helps create fairness while also allowing different personalities to work together effectively

How will your courses and experiences at Stout help you make an impact in your career?

Stout does an incredible job preparing students for real-world experiences. The coursework is relevant and applicable, and I’ve found myself using what I’ve learned in class almost daily.

One of my favorite classes was Marketing and Leasing Commercial and Residential Properties. Additionally, I found accounting courses to be helpful to gain a better understanding of finance within a business.

Involvement in student organizations like IREM, the Institute of Real Estate Management, has also been a game-changer. It ��. given me the confidence to connect with industry professionals and grow my network.

Career Services’ annual First Destination Report declared that 100% of recent REPM graduates are employed or furthering their education within six months of graduation, and have an average starting salary of $58,000. �� . real estate property management program is one of only a handful of its kind in the U.S.

Serving as a seasonal leasing specialist at The Vue at Pinnacle Park and The Lafayette in Fitchburg, �� real estate property management senior William Boyce completed his summer cooperative experience with Weidner Apartment Homes.

“What I love most about the REPM major is the variety in real estate, as well as the core concepts that are found in every avenue of the field. I know various professionals who have pivoted in different directions in real estate without having to restart their career ladder,” Boyce said.

The Lafayette is a luxury property with two buildings, less than five years old, and offers modern finishes. The Vue is comprised of five buildings and has more traditional home colors. The residences are both located near nature reserves, Boyce said.

Weidner Apartment Homes, headquartered in Kirkland, Washington, was recognized on the National Multi-Family Housing Council ��. 2024 50 Largest Apartment Owners List as the 12th largest private owner of apartments in the U.S. It represents more than 315 multifamily residential communities, with more than 72,000 units in 13 states and Canada.

Boyce, of DeForest, plans to graduate this December and is interested in a career in real estate appraisal. As a Senior Airman in the Wisconsin Air National Guard, he is set to begin Airman Leadership School in 2026, which he’ll complete before beginning his real estate career.

“�� . Veteran Services has made utilizing my benefits a breeze. I have heard of other airmen at different schools having little to no help putting their benefits to use. Thanks to Veteran Services, I will be able to graduate debt- and stress-free,” said Boyce, adding, “Brian Hackner, military education benefits coordinator, has been a huge help.”

How do you hope to make an impact in your field?

I hope to impact the real estate property management field by changing the stigma of property managers. Most people only recall their worst memories of moving out of a property they lived in. I hope to create some lasting memories.

The “Love Notes” program at Weidner is a good example of this and is something I would like to take with me. They send notes to their residents to show how much they appreciate them, and they help inspire community.

What were your main roles as an intern with Weidner Apartment Homes?

My main role was helping in the leasing office. I completed tours, answered phones, and responded to emails from prospects and residents.

We started our day with an hour of cleaning the property. This would include wiping down windows, vacuuming common areas and inspecting vacant units. Before tours or when inspecting vacant units, we would bring a “sparkle kit” to clean the place up. A little difference in cleanliness can go a long way.

Every day is different in property management. I had random projects, like removing a dozen tires from the property to Discount Tire for proper waste disposal. I also repainted the number lines for an underground parking garage! I had a lot of fun doing that.

What did you enjoy most about your internship?

I enjoy charts and graphs. Our community director had all the reports for the property finances. Through these numbers, you can see everything that is happening at the property. The documents would go over accounts receivable, accounts payable, vacancies and more.

The regional directors have already forecasted the year based on current market trends and past years. My classes in Investment Analysis and ICT Problem Solving were beneficial for this. I was already familiar with all the terminology thanks to my property management classes. We had practiced the calculations that would go into these numbers as well.

What was challenging about your internship, and how did you face those challenges?

The most challenging part of my internship was learning the way Weidner Apartment Homes’ properties operate. This was my third internship in the industry, and it made me realize that every property – even if part of a larger company – is managed it in its own way.

I worked at The Heights in Menomonie as a community assistant. This role was heavily based around community events, marketing and cleaning. At Guardian Property Management, I was an administrative assistant, where I responded to resident questions and processed lease renewals.

How will your courses and experiences at Stout help you make an impact in your career?

I know for certain that my courses and experiences at Stout will help me make an impact in the industry. Stout ��. REPM major is unique and gave me a head start compared to a new hire unfamiliar with the industry.

By far, my favorite class has been Real Estate Appraisal. I really liked the way the class was structured, and it was a lot more numbers-based. Learning the different approaches to valuation and practicing them in and out of the classroom was exciting for me.

That said, I have loved all of my Property Management classes. In Real Estate Ethics, we had a debate at the end of the semester, and during our Capstone, we toured a property in the Twin Cities to create a management plan for.

Employers looking to fill hiring needs help 2,000 Blue Devils reach career goals

Recruiters from hundreds of companies from across the United States will travel to �� to interview students and alumni for internships and post-graduation positions during the university ��. four-day Career Conference Week.

More than 2,000 Blue Devils will connect with leading employers in engineering, packaging, plastics, design, hospitality and more at five industry-focused fairs from Monday, Sept. 22, to Thursday, Sept. 25, hosted by Career Services at the Memorial Student Center.

Fortune 500 companies attending are 3M, Boston Scientific, DR Horton, Fastenal, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Hilton, JLL, Northwestern Mutual Insurance, Parker Hannifin, Sanmina and Xcel.

Many of the recruiters represent businesses that have formed deeper connections with ��, including through the Career Services Partnership Program. CSPP works with employers to identify their strategic focus and build deeper connections with students and academic programs on campus.

Fastenal, Sundt and Menards are top-level CSPP members, as are EVCO Plastics, Greenheck Group, Heartland Business Systems, Phillips-Medisize, John Roberts, Market & Johnson, Nexen, Skyward, Vertin, Wilderness Resort and Xcel Energy.

Two new CSPP partners this year are CTech Manufacturing, a maker of aluminum carts, cabinets and drawers, in Weston, Wisconsin; and Nox Group, a construction company based in Phoenix, Arizona.

The companies seek student interns from �� because of the university ��. practical, hands-on approach to learning, which prepares students to contribute to real-world projects from day one.

“Leaders within Nox Group have been recruiting from Stout for more than 10 years, and we’ve always been impressed with the quality of students that come from the construction management program,” said Delaney Clark, a talent acquisition specialist with the company. “Nox Group values strong relationships with universities, and the CSPP program allows us to build meaningful connections with both students and faculty. It gives us a platform to support career development while also creating a pipeline of future talent for our organization.”

CTech Manufacturing has a goal to develop a lasting relationship with students and faculty and offers a variety of internships, including engineering, software development, sales, marketing, manufacturing technology and operations. Two students interned with them last summer.

“�� interns are prepared to take risks, ask questions, and make an impact at CTech, and that fits well with our high-performance culture and goals,” said Jennifer Rauscher, the company ��. director of Workforce Strategy and Partnerships. “We also have two �� alums at CTech: Jacob Wolfe, our director of software development, graduated in mechanical engineering; and Nick Janse is our newest manufacturing engineer.”

Student interns at Nox Group support both field and office operations and step into real project roles, assisting with scheduling, project documentation, coordination with subcontractors, and on-site tasks with project managers and superintendents.

“We want interns to leave with hands-on experience that adds real value to their career path,” Clark said. “We see career fairs not just as recruiting events, but as opportunities to mentor and connect with the next generation of industry leaders. Even if a student doesn’t end up at Nox Group, our goal is that they walk away from a conversation with us feeling encouraged and better prepared for their career.”

Clark encourages students to come prepared to share their story. “Think about what motivates you, what experiences you’ve had so far and where you want to grow. Research the companies you’re most interested in and prepare a few thoughtful questions. Confidence and curiosity go a long way,” she added.

Rauscher agreed. “Take the time to learn about companies like CTech Manufacturing that are coming to the Career Conference, so that you can connect your interests and experiences to the companies’ work. Let us know what else you’re involved in on campus. We’re proud supporters of Blue Devil Baja student organization and would love to learn more about other organizations.”

Career Conference Week and additional recruitment events

Career Conference Week kicks off the fall recruitment season of Career Services’ programs and events for students, including the Built Environment Career Fair, Wisconsin BioHealth Summit, Government & Nonprofit Career Fair and Internship Draft Day.

Employers connect with students graduating into the workforce as well as with juniors and seniors looking for internships and opportunities to enhance their applied learning. The Cooperative Education and Internship Program helps to coordinate students’ required experiential learning components and builds partnerships between employers, students, and university faculty and staff.

More than 40 companies will be attending the conference as brand-new partners or re-engaging with the campus. Many companies attend multiple days of the conference to recruit students from across degree fields.

“Of note this fall are the more than 25 companies attending our computing career fair, which is a 20% increase from the spring conference. The increase represents companies from diverse industries across Wisconsin, including manufacturing, insurance, medical technologies, engineering and consumer goods,” Barts said.

Students and alumni are encouraged to attend any and all days.

National rankings highlight affordability and student outcomes as university empowers students’ career readiness

For its dedication to affordability and student outcomes, �� earned national recognition as one of America's Best Colleges by Money Magazine for a second year in a row.

At ��, Wisconsin ��. ��, 99% of recent graduates are employed or furthering their education within six months of graduation, according to Career Services’ annual First Destination Report.

Alumni employers include 125 Fortune 500 companies over the past five years, and 85% of graduates are employed in Wisconsin and Minnesota, strengthening the Midwest workforce. The average starting salary is $57,000 for those with undergraduate degrees – the highest in the region – and $74,000 for those with master ��. degrees.

��'s Career Services hosts two four-day Career Conferences each year.

“�� . commitment to creating degrees that align with and support a wide range of industries across the state shows its strength as Wisconsin ��. ��. Our ability to infuse hands-on projects into first year through capstone courses helps students to develop skills that impact the workforce immediately beyond graduation,” said Career Services Director Bryan Barts. “It is our office ��. mission to empower our students' career readiness intentionally.”

Money ��. annual Best Colleges list represents the best investments nationwide for students based on graduation rates, cost of attendance, financial aid, alumni salaries and more.

Fewer than 15% of schools listed earned four stars or more, like ��. Of the nation ��. more than 2,600 four-year universities, fewer than 30% made the list. Schools that made the list are not ranked.

Undergraduates participate in faculty-mentored research at the annual Research Day.

�� . focus on applied learning ensures that students have hands-on experiences and research opportunities to practice what they learn in the classroom. With three times as many labs and studio spaces as classrooms, students are prepared from day one to step into their internships, co-ops and careers.

“Many of our Career Services programs, including our national award-winning Cooperative Education and Internship Program, are rooted in developing students’ career readiness competencies, whether it is taking their classroom experience and applying them in the real world or infusing career conversations through their first on-campus position via our Grow, Persist, Succeed (GPS) program,” Barts said.

More than 1,000 students annually participate in �� . Cooperative Education and Internship Program, which helps to coordinate students’ required experiential learning components and partners with more than 500 companies in Wisconsin and nationally.

“Our employer partners share with me repeatedly that hiring a �� student is a goal, as they bring something special – the skills to impact their businesses and projects immediately,” Barts said.

Engineering capstone students present their industry-sponsored projects as part of their final.
