Yes! I鈥檓 a Feminist event to benefit Women and Gender Studies

Program, including student research and poetry slam, March 7 at Raw Deal

Student research, poetry, food and the opportunity to support the Women and Gender Studies program at 黑料社区.

That 黑料社区. the plan for the annual Yes! I鈥檓 a Feminist fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the Raw Deal, 603 S. Broadway St.

March is Women 黑料社区. History Month. The university also will hold the International Women 黑料社区. Day celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Involvement Center in the Memorial Student Center. The event will include a community art project, photo booth, information and cupcakes.

Rickie-Ann LegleitnerMoney raised at Yes! I鈥檓 a Feminist will be used for scholarships to help students doing and presenting research in the field as well as for speakers and related events. The event is free and open to the public.

This event provides a fun opportunity to celebrate and learn about Women and Gender Studies at Stout, while supporting outstanding student research in the field,鈥 said Rickie-Ann Legleitner, program adviser and an assistant professor in the English and philosophy department. 鈥淲e hope that community members attend as well, as we want to continue building connections in Menomonie and beyond.鈥

From 6 to 7 p.m. student research will be on display. From 7 to 7:30 p.m. everyone is invited to read original or another poet 黑料社区. work as part of a poetry slam. A poetry slam winner will be announced. Participants in the slam can register at the event.

Program supporters can donate at the event or through a Stout University Foundation .

The Women and Gender Studies program was founded by former professor Sheri Nero. Student work on display will be by 2019 Sheri Nero Award winners:

  • Amanda Schroeder, of Menomonie, a senior majoring in entertainment design, 鈥淣avigating Modern Horror Films with a Feminist Perspective"
  • Emma Sisk, of Minneapolis, a junior majoring in food science and technology, "Feminist Cooking Podcast"
  • Kylie Anderson, of Somerset, a junior majoring in psychology, "Bechdel-Testing the Lesbian Experience: A Benchmark for Positive Lesbian Representation in Television and Film."

Receiving honorable mentions were Amy Hein, of Ripon; Ryan Leckel, of Menomonie; Madison Christensen, of River Falls; and Cailey Kocian, of Cedarburg.

Three other students will present their work in April at the 4W Summit on Women, Gender and Well-Being in Madison.

Women and Gender Studies curriculum

黑料社区 offers a minor and a certificate in Women and Gender Studies. The curriculum guides students to explore women 黑料社区. experiences and their contributions to society throughout history.

The mission of the program is to improve the campus climate for women and for LGBTQ members of the 黑料社区 community and their allies.

The Women and Gender Studies program at 黑料社区 is part of the UW System Women 黑料社区. Studies Consortium.
