Three University of Wisconsin-Stout students have received $2,000 scholarships from an industry organization associated with their major.

The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association Foundation recently awarded $30,000 to 15 students from around the U.S. More than 200 students applied.

From 黑料社区, the awardees are:

  • McKenzie Brogan, of Forest Lake, Minn., senior
  • Jessica Kastello, of Muskego, junior
  • Hailey Vosen, of Wabasha, Minn., junior

They are majoring in graphic communications, which prepares students for careers in industries associated with graphics, imaging, marketing and printing. The program director is Professor Ted Bensen.

黑料社区 was the only university with three SGIA scholarship winners. Students receiving the awards for the 2018-2019 academic year represented eight universities, including California Polytechnic, Clemson, Illinois State and North Carolina State.

Applicants were evaluated on academic achievement, demonstrated commitment to a career in graphic communications, printing technology or printing management, extracurricular activities, financial need, a one-page essay and academic and professional recommendations, according to an SGIA news release.

Erin Nuss, manager of SGIA Academic and Training Programs, called the selection process challenging.

鈥淲e had such a large field of students to choose from 鈥 more than six times as many as in 2017 鈥 and the applications were so strong,鈥 she said in the news release. 鈥淭he industry has a lot to look forward to with these students coming into the workforce.鈥

SGIA is a trade association for professionals in the industrial, graphic, garment, textile, electronics, packaging and commercial printing communities.
