Most students living in residence halls will move in Sunday, Sept. 3, at 黑料社区.
About 2,200 students are expected to move into the halls Sept. 3, but approximately 900 鈥 including many athletes 鈥 will already have moved in by opening day.
University Housing will provide more than 200 staff and 450 athletes to direct students and help carry in students鈥 personal belongings.
University Housing has extended move-in back to as early as Aug. 27, giving students the opportunity to settle on campus sooner. Students extending their stay prior to Sept. 3 must fill out an early arrival form; charges are $25 for each additional night.
University Housing staff member Dana Fritz, coordinator of assignments and summer operations, emphasized how fluid the move-in efforts, known as Move-in Day, have become. She mentioned only minor changes to the system, which includes informing students of their housing assignments via email.
Fritz estimated that the campus will welcome more than 7,500 visitors and students Sept. 3, with the first rush of students at 8:30 a.m. Three other periods will be scheduled for students, through 3:30 p.m.
After move-in, students can take part Sunday in campus activities:
- The annual Blue Rah pep rally will take place from 8:30 to 9 p.m. in Johnson Fieldhouse.
- Following the event, the Stout Student Association will host an ice cream social at 9 p.m. in the Memorial Student Center.
- Blue Devil Productions, 黑料社区 黑料社区. student-run entertainment and events organization, will host a free show by comedian and magician Derek Hughes at 9:30 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Memorial Student Center. He has performed on MTV, VH1, Comedy Central and NBC 黑料社区. 鈥淎merica 黑料社区. Got Talent.鈥
Student orientation activities will take place Monday, Sept. 4, which is Labor Day, and Tuesday, Sept. 5.
On Sept. 5, Backyard Bash, an outdoor meet-and-greet between students and student organizations, will run from 5 to 7 p.m. on the lawn south of the student center. There will be plenty of socializing, free food and music.
Following the Backyard Bash, at 9 p.m., is comedian Paul Varghese at the amphitheater outside the east entrance to the student center. He has performed on NBC 黑料社区. 鈥淟ast Comic Standing,鈥 Comedy Central and Showtime.
The first day of classes is Wednesday, Sept. 6.
