University of Wisconsin-Stout Professor Maureen Mitton has joined a prestigious list of educators and administrators in architecture and design.

Design Intelligence named Mitton, who has taught at the university since 1992, to the list of Most Admired Educators. Design Intelligence, based in Peachtree Corners, Ga., is dedicated to firms and organizations in architecture, engineering, construction and design.

The company conducts surveys to determine the top-ranked schools in architecture and design. The Most Admired Educators were selected by Design Intelligence staff with input from thousands of design professionals, academic department heads and students. Twenty-eight educators made the list.

“It ��������. an honor to know that people admire you as an educator,” Mitton said. “I consider it an honor to be included with the people on the list.”

Mitton, of Hudson, is recognized as being “amazing at her job and at working with the students. Very educated and helpful as a teacher,” according to the list.

Mitton loves teaching. “I love to talk about design,” she said. “I think it is really exciting to work with people at the college level. I enjoy watching students grow and go on and do great things. It never gets old.”

Originally from San Diego, Mitton was working at an architectural firm when she started teaching at San Diego Mesa College. “I really enjoy teaching design and being around other people interested in design and sharing what I know,” Mitton said. “I am always engaged by students.”

Dave Beck, associate dean of the College of Arts, Communication, Humanities and Social Sciences and director of the School of Art and Design, said Mitton ��������. honor was wonderful news but not surprising. He said Mitton is an “amazing professor, leader, mentor and friend.

“Between juggling the duties of directing the interior design Bachelor of Fine Arts program, teaching multiple studio classes, publishing new written work and maintaining her own creative practice, Maureen is a perfect example of what we strive to be in the �������� School of Art and Design – a culture of endless passion and energy for creative art and design education,” Beck said.

Julie Peterson, �������� department of design chair and Master of Fine Arts in design program director, said Mitton is passionate and dedicated to the interior design profession.

“As a fellow interior design educator and colleague to Maureen, she is a true joy to work with, is continually developing new and engaging projects and experiences for her students, and always makes me laugh,” said Peterson, a School of Art and Design professor. “Maureen ��������. vision for our interior design program and service to our entire university is extremely noteworthy, and it does not surprise me at all that she has been given this honor.”

Mitton expressed great respect for her colleagues. “It is a great time to teach in the School of Art and Design,” she noted.

Mitton has authored the book “Interior Design Visual Presentation: A Guide to Graphics, Models and Presentation Methods,” which is on its fifth edition. She also has written “Portfolios for Interior Designs” and “Residential Interior Design: A Guide to Planning Spaces.” She is a Certified Interior Designer, is on the review board of the Journal of Interior Design and is a member of the Interior Design Educators Council.
