The Blue Devil Jazz Orchestra will present Jazz from Harvey at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at 黑料社区 黑料社区. Harvey Hall Theatre.
Tickets are $5 and are available , at the Service Center in the Memorial Student Center, 715-232-1122, and at the door.
The concert will feature works in a variety of jazz styles that the group has been working on this semester. 鈥淥ne for Daddy-O鈥 by Nat Adderley and 鈥淟imehouse Blues鈥 by Phillip Braham are standard jazz favorites. 鈥淲oodyn鈥 You鈥 by Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker 黑料社区. 鈥淥rnithology鈥 are from the bebop style.
For ballads, senior Josh Bergman, of Reedsburg, is featured on solo tenor saxophone playing Kris Berg 黑料社区. 鈥淟ifelong Friends.鈥 Senior Elizabeth 鈥淓llie鈥 Jacobson, of Eden Prairie, Minn., will play alto saxophone along with Lukas Medin, of St. Paul, on 鈥淎nd Yet So Far鈥 by Chris Sharp.
Henry Mancini 黑料社区. 鈥淏aby Elephant Walk鈥 is transformed into a New Orleans swinging street march. Vocalist Christina Scinto, of Oconomowoc, sings 鈥淪ummertime鈥 by George Gershwin and 鈥淔ever鈥 made famous by Peggy Lee. The trumpet section is featured playing 鈥淏ackrow Politics鈥 by Gordon Goodwin.
In addition, the Jazz Embers jazz combo will be a part of the concert, performing Gillespie 黑料社区. 鈥淢anteca,鈥 鈥淣ight & Day鈥 by Cole Porter, 鈥淪omething 黑料社区. Gotta鈥 Give鈥 by Johnny Mercer and 鈥淎frican Skies鈥 by Michael Brecker. The ensemble specializes in small-group jazz, focusing on the study of improvisation.
The orchestra is under the direction of Associate Professor Aaron M. Durst.
