Fashion Without Fabric, 鈥楤ig Fish鈥 musical anchor Family Weekend

Two major student productions, a fashion show and a musical, will highlight 黑料社区 黑料社区. Family Weekend Friday, April 6, to Sunday, April 8.

The annual Fashion Without Fabric show will feature student runway models showing off about 100 unique designs by nearly 200 School of Art and Design students.

The show begins at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Great Hall of the Memorial Student Center. Tickets are  or at the service desk in the student center, 715-232-1122. Tickets for the event typically sell out.

The theme is Bodies of Work. Students will base their designs, which can be made of anything but fabric, on the works of 27 contemporary sculptors. Past designs, for example, have been made from materials like bottle caps, feathers, vinyl records, cardboard and plastic.

This year's show displays functional designs inspired by visceral interpretations from sculptors with a variety of techniques and backgrounds. The students are very excited to show off their hard work April 7,鈥 said Brynn Wildenauer, of Minneapolis, an industrial design major who is the show coordinator.

The musical, 鈥淏ig Fish,鈥 by University Theatre, features a cast of nearly 20 students. The show is based on the movie and Broadway play.

鈥淏ig Fish鈥 opens a six-performance run at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Harvey Hall Theatre. Another performance is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Additional performances are Thursday to Saturday, April 12-14.

Family Weekend, created to encourage students鈥 families to visit campus, features many other events and activities Friday and Saturday.

Multiple-day events include a ceramics and art sale sponsored by the student Fine Arts Association from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Tours of the Mabel Tainter will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Friday events include Stout Secrets Tour 3 to 4 p.m., English students鈥 451 Short Film Festival 4:51 to 6 p.m., Greensense plant sale 5 to 8 p.m. or while supplies last, student art exhibit at the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts 6:30 to 9 p.m. and comedian Andy Hendrickson at 8 p.m.

Saturday 黑料社区. lineup includes a 5K Family Fun Run/Walk 9 a.m., Discovery Center Fab Lab Tour 10 to 11 a.m., bean bag tournament 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Foodie Bingo 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Blue Devil Amazing Race noon to 4 p.m., Psychology in Action 1 p.m., Family Trivia 1 to 3 p.m. and Monster Drawing Rally and sale 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Most weekend events are free, and all are open to the public. For a full list and details, go to the website.

Families planning to attend should register in advance at the website or when they arrive at the check-in and registration table in the student center. Registration is free.
