Family, consumer sciences/DPI event to bring 200 teachers

Conference Sept. 28 at student center will include 黑料社区 presenters

黑料社区 黑料社区. annual Family and Consumer Sciences Education Conference, in conjunction with the state Department of Public Instruction Child Care Conference, will be held Friday, Sept. 28, at the Memorial Student Center.

About 200 teachers from around the state are expected to attend.

Attendance at the DPI conference is required for family and consumer sciences teachers for several skills certificate programs.

High school teachers are invited to bring students to tour 黑料社区, visit classes and visit with university students.

Marline PearsonThe conference keynote speaker is Marline Pearson, of the in Madison, presenting 鈥淭he Power of Relationship Education for Student Success.鈥 She recently retired as chair of the sociology department at Madison Area Technical College.

A specialist on the topics of relationships and sexuality, Pearson is co-author of Within My Reach, a relationship skills and decision-making program. She also co-authored a report, Making a Love Connection: Teen Relationships, Pregnancy, and Marriage, commissioned and published by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.

  • George E. Duychak, lecturer, business department, tour of the Niche student-run retail store
  • Allison Feller, tour of the Child and Family Study Center
  • Andy Felton, assistant professor, rehabilitation and counseling, 鈥淏rain Development and Play鈥
  • Maureen Mitton, professor, School of Art and Design, 鈥淚nterior Design Trends: Preparation for Interior Design Education.鈥
  • Theresa Kohlmeier, assistant professor, School of Education, 鈥淚nstructional Strategies when Working with Students who Speak a Language Other than English.鈥
  • Jeanne Rothaupt, Counseling Center director, 鈥淗elping Distressed Students: Signs and Strategies to Help鈥
  • Pranabendu Mitra, assistant professor, food and nutrition, 鈥淓xtrusion: A Thermal Cooking Process Used in Food Processing鈥

Alex Vernon, a recent 黑料社区 graduate, will present for the on the ProStart curriculum with WRA Executive Director Connie Fedor.

The conference is a collaboration of 黑料社区 黑料社区. undergraduate program in family and consumer sciences education, directed by Professor Diane Klemme; DPI Education Consultant Diane Ryberg; and 黑料社区 黑料社区. Professional Education Programs and Services.
